The Gold Coast Suns have travelled to Perth twice this season, with two very different results, but the one thing that was consistent was the support they received from training staff from East Fremantle Football Club. Earlier in the year, while our players were enjoying a weekend off with a bye, some of the training staff continued to work, assisting the GC Suns and worked a double shift last weekend to support both East Fremantle and the Suns once again. Peel punish Sharks’ off day
Rob Wiley feels the Sharks 26-point defeat to the Thunder only highlights the competitive nature of this year’s Maccas WAFL competition, as Peel outmatched East Fremantle in all areas on Saturday afternoon at ATOM Stadium.
“It’s such an even league, and if you bring the wrong attitude on the day you’ll end up with this result,” said Wiley.
“As much as we thought we prepared well we obviously didn’t today, while Peel had that intensity Read More [+]

Youth marshalled for Thunder clash
Tom Marshall will be East Fremantle’s second debutant for the season when the Sharks take on Peel Thunder in this Saturday’s Round 10 clash at ATOM Stadium.
Marshall, 18, has been named in the back pocket but is also expected to help support the Sharks’ midfield with Jamie McNamara (calf) and George Hampson (calf) joining Cam Eardly on the sidelines after last week’s win over Claremont. Read More [+]
Wiley can't fault Sharks effort
Saturday afternoon’s five point win over the Claremont Tigers was a case of third time lucky in close games for Rob Wiley and his Sharks side.
After seeing the team drop matches to Peel and South Fremantle from a position of ascendency late in the game, the Sharks coach was pleased to see his chargers hold on as Claremont threatened to steal the points.
“We’ve been through it before when we were up and we let those game go. In many ways I think we’ve learnt from those two close losses and we were able to get across the line,” said Wiley.
Farewell to a Legend: Merv Cowan
Mervyn George Cowan 1925-2016
The Club regretfully informs members that Merv Cowan passed away over the weekend. Our deepest sympathies to his family and his daughters Diane, Lorraine and Peta. One of the greatest East Fremantle servants, Merv Cowan played 169 games for the Sharks between 1948-1957. A Premiership player in 1957, Cowan served as EFFC secretary from 1960–1964 and as President from 1970-1982. A true legend of the club, Merv Cowan attended East Fremantle games every week and has the Merv Cowan Stand named in his honour at ATOM Stadium.
A service will be held at Fremantle Cemetary at 3pm on Wednesday, followed by a wake at the East Fremantle Football Club.
Development League, Colts and Women's Match Reviews
Colts
The Colts started the day needing a victory against the second placed Tigers to keep in touch with the top five. The boys started the game in excellent fashion and were hard at the contest, tackling strongly and putting plenty of pressure on their opponents. Kicking with the aid of the breeze in the first quarter their direct football, pouncing on the Claremont turnovers enabled our boys to take a handy 4.4 to no Read More [+]
