Suns rely on Sharks trainers' expertise
The Gold Coast Suns have travelled to Perth twice this season, with two very different results, but the one thing that was consistent was the support they received from training staff from East Fremantle Football Club. Earlier in the year, while our players were enjoying a weekend off with a bye, some of the training staff continued to work, assisting the GC Suns and worked a double shift last weekend to support both East Fremantle and the Suns once again.
Over the past 9 seasons we have had ten trainers graduate from our club and take their place as part of West Coast and Fremantle AFL clubs, or become Head Trainers in the community.
In the match earlier this season between Fremantle and Gold Coast it is believed that a club record was set with 5 out of the 8 on ground staff have either been recently and/or are still, involved with our club.
East Fremantle Head Trainer Noel Johnstone has long been known for his firm approach and setting high standards for his team and the recent efforts of his staff is a testament to the success of that approach. "Just as a coach likes to see his players grow, develop and to take up higher opportunities, it's the same with me" Noel said. "I take great pride in that task and seeing people I have worked with succeed at the next level."
With 2 former East Fremantle training staff now regularly working at the Eagles, and 4 currently at the Dockers, Noel couldn’t have been happier with the potential record, stating "In addition to being a feeder system up to the next level here in WA, we also provide game day assistance to some of the visiting interstate teams and where possible use our staff as the additional support."
Gold Coast Suns Head Trainer Danielle was so pleased with the support that she shared the following feedback about the East Fremantle staff;
“Thank you so much for your help when we travel to Perth and also for the great trainers you provide for us.
It is so great knowing that we have some top quality helpers when we travel to WA, who know what is needed and can perform exceptionally well at this level”
Congratulations to everyone involved, it is great to see and something to be proud of both personally and as a club.
If you want to become involved as a sports trainer you should contact the club office for more details and the Club will put you in contact with Noel.
