East Fremantle Football Club Announces President Mark Stewart Will Retire After 19 Years of Service

East Fremantle, 10 November 2024 – East Fremantle Football Club announces that President Mark Stewart will not seek re-election, marking the end of his remarkable 19-year service on the board, including the last decade as President. Stewart’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the club through both growth and challenging times, leaving a lasting legacy on and off the field.

Reflecting on his tenure, Stewart shared, “After 19 incredible years on the board, including the last 10 as president, I’ve decided not to seek nomination—it’s time to pass the baton as we move back into East Fremantle Oval. Serving this great club has been an honour and privilege, with last year’s 2023 men’s premiership, ending a 25-year drought, standing out as a true highlight. This year’s reserves premiership, the Colts’ 2010 title, the founding of the WAFLW competition in 2019, and our women’s team winning the WAFLW premiership in 2023 bring me immense pride and fulfillment. I’m grateful for the incredible people who make this club what it is, and I look forward to staying involved in new ways. I couldn’t have done this without my amazing family—Leanne, Mikaela, Chelsea, Jasmyn, and Taylor— and my dad, who’s attended almost every game over these 19 years. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Unite for the blue & white!”

During his time with East Fremantle, Stewart led several pivotal initiatives, including the establishment of the Future Fund, a vital financial reserve that has supported the club’s stability and growth. His efforts helped secure a long-awaited lease on East Fremantle Oval that the club hasn’t had for over 30 years and the completion of a new complex despite post-COVID construction challenges. Stewart’s focus on community ties, player development, and strong relationships with government partners has laid a solid foundation for the club’s future.

The Board of East Fremantle Football Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mark Stewart for his dedication and vision. His contributions have helped shape the club’s identity and set it on a course for continued success. The club's members will soon elect a new President who will carry forward Stewart’s legacy. “Mark’s tireless work during his tenure has helped make East Fremantle the club it is today. We are profoundly grateful for his vision, dedication, and contributions, particularly the lasting relationships he established with the government, which proved invaluable during recent challenges. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide the club in the years ahead.”

As the club enters this new chapter, East Fremantle Football Club will keep members and supporters updated on the selection process for a new President, welcoming this exciting opportunity for renewal and continued growth.
