Sharks get the best of Royals in vital clash

The Round 15 clash between the East Fremantle Sharks and East Perth Royals loomed as a crucial contest in the race towards the 2026 WAFLW finals series. With just a handful of home-and-away games remaining, every win carried significant weight. East Fremantle entered the match sitting inside the top four after a strong month of football. The Sharks were looking to continue their winning momentum and strengthen their hold on a finals position.

East Fremantle kicked off the game with class, controlling possession through the midfield and applying pressure around the contest. The Sharks capitalised on their early dominance with two first-quarter goals from Eve Wilson-Sieber and Chelsea Natta, while East Perth managed one major after several forward-half entries. The Royals defended bravely but East Fremantle’s ball movement created numerous scoring opportunities.

The Royals fought hard but found it difficult to break through the Sharks’ disciplined defensive structure.

The final quarter showed, East Perth refused to give in, creating several forward entries and reducing the margin briefly. However, East Fremantle remained composed under pressure around the contest. The Rogers Cup Round 15 clash between East Fremantle and East Perth was never in doubt, with the Sharks delivering a dominant, one-sided performance to post a big win over the Royals at The Good Grocer Park.

East Fremantle set the tone from the opening bounce, dominating territory and finding repeat forward entries against a Royals side that struggled to get a foothold in the contest. The Sharks kicked three unanswered goals for the term, led by a strong opening burst inside 50, while East Perth were unable to trouble the scoreboard.

The second term followed a similar pattern, with East Fremantle’s forward line continuing to punish every opportunity. The Sharks added a further three goals to extend the margin beyond 30 points, while East Perth managed just a single behind despite battling hard against the tide. East Fremantle’s midfield group controlled clearances and ball use through the corridor, setting up wave after wave of attack.

East Perth found some much-needed rhythm in the third quarter, finally breaking through for two goals to get themselves on the scoreboard properly. But East Fremantle matched their intensity and more, adding two goals of their own to keep the margin firmly out of reach heading into the final change.

The final term belonged emphatically to the Sharks, who piled on six more goals while keeping East Perth scoreless for the term. Lucinta Akerman was particularly damaging in front of goal, finishing with five majors for the game, while the East Fremantle forward line shared the scoring load across six different goalkickers. Ainslie Keady and Abby Camilleri were among those to stand tall through the midfield and defence, helping East Fremantle maintain control right through to the final siren.
