With just two rounds remaining in the home-and-away season, every result carried enormous significance as East Fremantle hosted Peel Thunder in a crucial Round 16 WAFLW clash at The Good Grocer Park. The Sharks entered the contest strongly after a run of impressive victories that had them firmly entrenched in the top four and pushing for a coveted double chance.

In the first quarter, the Thunder came out firing out of the middle and kept East Fremantle to just one behind. Sarah Wielstra had a very good first quarter as she collected 7 disposals, with Peel taking a 5-point lead heading into the first break.

East Fremantle responded in the second quarter with greater intensity after the first break and had more possession through the midfield. The Sharks piled on three goals to close the gap and take the lead.

Amber Kinnane and Chloe Colgate provided plenty of drive through the middle of the ground in the third term, providing plenty of scoring opportunities. Peel fought hard but found scoring difficult against the Sharks defensive structure, scoring one behind for the quarter. East Fremantle had a 9-point lead going into the final change.

In the final quarter, Peel refused to give in and continued to attack around the ground, however they couldn’t covert on their scoring opportunities only kicking two behinds. East Fremantle kicked three goals in a row from Sienna Lilly, Chelsea Natta and Cienna Leslie. East Fremantle remained composed, controlling possession before running out comfortable winners to further strengthen their finals chances.
