14’s and 15’s Bendigo Bank Talent Academy Development Carnival vs Subiaco
The Sharks Academy Squads had their final fixture of the Academy carnival
on Thursday 8th October at Medibank Stadium against Subiaco. In very warm
conditions the day was always going to provide a good setting to showcase
the talented boys throughout the day.
The 14’s Early squad kicked off the day at 9am and produced some quality
displays of football with Subiaco testing our defensive structure early on.
The Sharks went into half time on equal points with Subiaco 35-35. After an
inspirational speech by Sharks runner Andrew Dodd the Sharks displayed a 3rd
quarter like no other kicking 6 goals 3pts to Subiaco’s 1 goal 1 point. There
was some fantastic team work and passages of play from Atten Mason, one of our
Midwest boys, together with Zach Hayward and James Lieschke. Ben Wardel was
outstanding once again in the backline, and he along with his other backline
mates, created some excellent passages of play in to the forward line. Full
forward Joshua Goodwin, who kicked 3 goals, along with James Lieschke, were
the main beneficiaries. The Sharks finished strongly and eventually ran out
winners 93-61. Best afield for the ‘Ealrys’ squad was Peirce Cant, who was
excellent in the ruck, Joshua Goodwin, Atten Mason, Zach Hayward, Conor
Mcphartland and James Lieschke. Goals scorers: James Lieschke 3, Joshua Goodwin 3,
Ben Wardle 2, Declan Thompson 2, Atten Mason, Pierce Cant and Kaleb Ruri all with
majors for the day.
EFFC 14.9 = 93 def Subiaco 9.7 = 61
The 14’s Late squad came out with a bang kicking the first 5 goals in the first
quarter to Subiaco’s 1 point. Caydn White, Jeremy Sharp and Luke Dobson lead the
way with some brilliant work through the midfield. The second quarter was nearly
a repeat of the first with our midfield dominating their opponents and setting up
5 goals 5 points to Subiaco’s 1 goal. The 3rd quarter was a case of missed opportunities
in front of goal where we kicked 3 goals 6 points (many of which were gettable) to Subiaco’s
1 goal 1 point. Chris Miller kicked an absolute brilliant goal from a clean pick up in a
stoppage which was his second goal of the day. Jeremy Sharp was also brilliant through the
midfield kicking 3 majors for the day. The Sharks in the end defeated Subiaco 103-23.
Luke Jackson and Luke Dobson were outstanding in the ruck and midfield, along with
Jeremy Sharp and Trey Ruscoe. Leroy Pigram provided outstanding run from the wing,
setting up numerous goals for the Sharks. Best afield for the Sharks were Luke Dobson,
Leroy Pigram, Luke Jackson, Jeremy Sharp, Trey Ruscoe and Caydn White.
Goals for the Sharks: Caydn White 4, Jeremy Sharp 3, Trey Ruscoe 2, Jake Read 2,
Chris Miller 2, Riley Duffy 1 and Ross Collier 1.
EFFC 15.13 = 103 def Subiaco 3.5 = 23
The 15’s Earlys had a hot day on the park with temperatures hitting 30’C.
Despite the heat the players managed to have a solid day dominating their
opponents with some pace and spread through the midfield and some excellent
work in defence. The ‘earlies’ ended up having 9 goal scorers for the day with
Ben Martini and Felix Shackleton kicking 2 goals each, with Milan Murdoch, Kaleb Morfitt,
Nic Watson, Austin Jones, Scott Read, Jaylen Pailthorpe and Ben Elsbury all with single majors.
Best afield was Connor Douglas, along with Ben Fraser, Tom Joyce, Scott Read and Chad Sims
EFFC 13.7 = 85 def Subiaco 3.4 = 22
The 15’s Lates finished off the carnival well and capped off a great day for the Shark’s
Academy with a super win, on the back of some great work by Andrew Trefry and Basil Thomas,
along with Kyle Potter kicking 4 goals. The game was quite even early on with both teams
defending well and rebounding many of the forward thrusts inside 50. The Sharks ended up
holding up the better of the two sides, eventually wearing them down to record a very good win.
Best afield were Andrew Trefry, Basil Thomas, Nelson Aranda, Lachlan Taylor and Kyle Potter.
Goal scorers: Kyle Potter 4, Blake Messina 2, Lachlan Taylor 1, Nelson Aranda 1, Mitchell Watts 1
and Tyson Pittard 1.
EFFC 10.10 = 70 def Subiaco 8.6 = 54
The Bendigo Bank Talent Academy Carnival was a major success for our 14’s and 15’s squads.
We can clearly see a number of talented boys coming through the East Fremantle Academy pathway
and from that we predict a very bright future for the club. There were some outstanding displays
of football from all squads and we were very impressed in what the players produced. I would like to
thank those who were part of the Carnival; to the parents who came to all the games and gave their
support, and certainly the coaching staff, assistants and team managers for giving their time to the
squads since day one.
