Black vs Blue for MND
The match on Sunday between the Sharks and the Swans will take on a special meaning as the clubs compete not just for the four points but also for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA’s Kerry Coates-Joyce Allen Perpetual Trophy.
The fourth annual match is part of the clubs’ joint commitment to raising awareness about Motor Neurone Disease, in honour of East Fremantle’s renowned premiership player and coach, Kerry Coates, and Swan Districts’ life member Joyce Allen, both of whom passed away due to MND.
It will be the first game at the helm for Sharks Interim Head Coach Brad Dodd who has already shaken things up with a his team announcement, which places a few players outside their usual roles. In line to make their debut are 63. Dylan Coulthard, 48. Jack Fletcher, 39. Miles Franklin, and 16. Fraser Perry. Along with Jake Schleicher and Brandon Ellis, they come into the side that was defeated by Subiaco last week, replacing the injured George Hampson (knee, 4-6 weeks), Jack Perham (general soreness, 1 week) and Sam Read (hamstring, 1 week).
Potential Debutantes
Fraser Perry – The 18 year old has come through the East Fremantle Talent Academy and hails from our Midwest region. Hard-nosed player who has been the Captain of the Colts in 2015 and has led admirably, notwithstanding his fantastic form.
Jack Fletcher – Jack arrived at the Sharks in 2013 after an outstanding stint in junior basketball that almost saw him heading to the USA. A strongly built ruckman, who is still learning his craft, Jack has led the Development League Ruck division extremely well in 2015.
Miles Franklin – Miles has done almost the perfect apprenticeship at the Sharks, first coming to the Club via the 14’s Talent Academy, then 15’s and 16’s before transitioning in to the Colts program. In 2014 Miles progress in to the Senior squad where he performed very well at Development League level for most of the season. Miles has been banging on the selectors door for a few weeks now.
Dylan Coulthard - Dylan is another midwest product, a quick left footer who has been in top form in the reserves over the last few weeks, kicking goals from the wing.
