WA Day Derby a great advertisement for WAFL Footy.
Seven Thousand people streamed into ATOM Stadium on Monday 1st June to witness a thrilling encounter between the two Fremantle WAFL teams in the Original Derby.
ATOM Stadium looked a treat with a kids corner, additional catering & bars and full of fans ready for a great day out at the footy.
At the President's Lunch we welcomed 250 guests, with entertainment by Jayda D'Agostino and guest speakers Allan Turner, CEO of Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation, and Dave 'the Suburban Boy' Warner.
Throughout the day the Club supported Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation, with players from every grade wearing Rainbow coloured shoelaces. The Zaidee's medal for the best on ground in the League was won by Ryan Cook of South Fremantle for his 3 goals and 23 disposals.
Sam Roberts-Smith performed National Anthem before the League game in front of 7000 standing fans. Sam's performcance was courtesy of the WA Opera.
At the conclusion of the game the Foundation Day Cup was presented to the winning team South Fremantle by former East Fremantle and South Fremantle player Steve Marsh.
One of the big hits for the day was the Win a Grand in the Hand competion where one lucky East Fremantle and South Fremantle supporter each won $1000. The competition was set up at each gate and received hundreds of entries from fans flocking into ATOM Stadium. Congratulations to the winners!
Shredder the Shark & Basil the Bulldog were very popular outside the gates before bouncedown in the League game, with supporters vying for their attention as they entered the gates. The mascots continued their off field battle from the Anzac Day Derby.
Two marquees were set up on the hill at the Marmion Street end of ATOM Stadium and were filled by Fremantle CBC Amateur Football Club and by Casey Tours.
The big crowd of over 7000 people filled most of the seats and grass banks surrounding ATOM Stadium, but they werent the only ones catching the action with tens of thousands more watching on tv on Channel 7mate & listening on ABC Radio & Pirate FM.
