Mother's Day Match Preview: Sharks v Demons

Friday, May 8, 2015 - 11:07 AM by Jack Lefroy

The in-form Sharks take on Perth Demons on Mothers Day, Sunday 10th May at 11:40am. The Sharks are coming off 3 impressive wins before having the bye last week and will be fresh and ready to go on Sunday. The game takes place at ATOM Stadium (East Fremantle Oval) on Sunday May 10 at the earlier than usual time of 11:40am due to the Channel 7 telecast of the game.

The Sharks will be celebrating the 100th Sharks game for Jamie ‘J Mac’ McNamara and also the debut of Joshua Cuneo who comes into the League side to replace the injured Bradd Dalziell.

Along with Josh, the Sharks have included Jack Fletcher, Aaron Holmes, Julian Locantro, (all potential debutants for the Sharks) and Mark McGough into the 26 man squad.

The Demons include former West Coast Eagles, Richmond, and Sydney player Mitchell Morton into their team along with Daniel O’Sullivan, and Liam McKenna to replace Blake Borrett and Michael Florio. Also included in the Demons squad is Samuel Garstone and Sam McGillivray.

The Sharks are currently sitting 3rd on the WAFL ladder with 4 wins and 2 losses and come up against the bottom side in the competition in Perth who have won just 1 of their 7 games. The last time these sides met was Round 15 last season at ATOM Stadium; on this occasion the Sharks had the better of the Demons winning 14.18. (102) to 14.8. (92). The Sharks have traditionally been successful against Perth winning 65 of the 85 games they’ve played at ATOM Stadium, and the last time the Demons have beaten the Sharks was back in Round 7 2009.

This weekend the Development League will play at the earlier time of 9:00am at ATOM Stadium against the Perth Demons. Both the Sharks and Demons Development League sides have been struggling so far this season and both sit around the middle of the table. The Sharks are in 8th position on the ladder with just 2 wins so far this season and the Demons sit just above them with 3 wins in 5th position. In their last hit out, the Sharks Development League 15.5. (95) defeated the top of the table Bulldogs 11.13. (79) before a bye last weekend and should come into this game with confidence after the Demons had a 68 point loss to Subiaco last weekend.

The Mothers Day Colts game will be played at primetime after the League Game, at 2:30pm at ATOM Stadium. This is a good opportunity for the Colts to get a taste of afternoon WAFL footy in front of a bigger crowd. The Sharks and Demons Colts sides sit alongside each other on the ladder with the Sharks in 6th spot with 3 wins from 6 games and the Demons just above in 5th spot with 4 wins from their 7 games. The Sharks will come out hungry for a win after losing their last 3 and will looking to take over the Demons 5th spot on the ladder. The Colts will be without State 18s players who have State duties this weekend.
