Rory O'Brien wins his third Lynn Medal
Congratulations to East Fremantle Football Club's Captain Rory O'Brien on winning the 2014 Lynn Medal. Rory joins an elite group of East Fremantle Players to have won 3 or more Lynn Medals: Martin Melody, current EFFC Coach Stephen Malaxos, Jack Clarke, Jack Sheedy and Brian Peake (6).
In the 2014 Season, Rory took on added responsibilities as the Captain of the Sharks and he led from the front all year. He finished 3rd in the competition for disposals at end of home and away season with 586 possessions (29.3 / game) and inside the top 10 for marks. He shares the record this year for most disposals in a game, with 37 in the Round 18 clash v Claremont. He played all 22 games in the midfield and kicked 10 goals.
Rory has placed in the top three in the Lynn Medal for each of the four years he has been at East Fremantle. This is Rory’s 5th WAFL Best & Fairest, having won two at Peel Thunder before transferring to the Sharks in 2011.
The Runner up this year was Rory’s brother Brock O’Brien, who returned to the Club after a year off due to injury. In his first two seasons at the Sharks Brock won the Bob Johnson Medal for leading goal kicker, but has placed his highest position in Lynn Medal as a backman in 2014.
Third went to last year’s joint winner and current Vice Captain Andrew Stephen. Andrew has placed in the top 5 of the Lynn Medal every year since 2010.
The Henry Jeffery Medal for the Fairest and Best in the Reserves was won by Tom Hooker. Tom made his League debut in Round 10 this year and played 13 Reserves games and 7 League games.
The Alan Trott Medal for the Best & Fairest Colts Player was awarded to Oliver Parish tonight after the count took place last week.
