East Fremantle Talent Academy Almost off to the Perfect Start
The East Fremantle 14’s and 15’s talent academy squads almost got off to the perfect start on Tuesday by winning three of the four games against Claremont, played at ATOM Stadium. Below is a summary of the day’s games from the Coaches’ Box, highlighting the goal scorers and best players.
14’s Early
The 14’s early started off their carnival with a hard fought game against Claremont that went down to the wire. Claremont got off to a strong start as our boys took a while to settle into the game but fortunately the Claremont boys didn’t take full advantage and went into the quarter time break with a 9 point lead.
The second and third quarters were a see sawing affair and by three quarter time East Fremantle had managed to claw their way to a one point lead thanks to some accurate goal kicking and a goal to Kyle Steel right on the three quarter time siren.
Claremont burst out of the blocks with the first two goals of the final quarter but once again our boys fought their way back with some great defensive pressure and quick ball movement to come out on top with an 8 point win.
FINAL SCORE: East Fremantle 11.3 = 69 defeated Claremont 9.7 = 61

14’s Lates
For the first game of the 14’s Development Carnival the young East Fremantle side came out to play and from the first bounce it was clear they were focussed and determined to take on Claremont. Hard, direct attack on the ball and fast movement saw the Sharks set the tone for the game and from a coach’s point of view it was very impressive to watch. The message to the players the night before the game was simple. Be in the right mindset, have the right attitude and have a willingness to work hard to achieve as a team. Every player took this on board and rose to the challenge.
At the final siren East Fremantle finished the game with a 17 goal, 13 behind haul to the Tigers 2 goals, 0 points.
Every one of the young Sharks played their role and worked exceptionally well together to reach the end result. The focus is now to carry the momentum into round 2 against South Fremantle, to be played on Friday, and build on a fantastic start to the 2014 Development Carnival!

15’s Early
The East Fremantle 15s Early squad went head to head with a formidable Claremont side on Tuesday, in front of a large home crowd. Claremont kicked with the breeze in the first term and made the most of it with five unanswered goals.
East Fremantle’s team defence operated much more efficiently during the 2nd and 3rd terms, giving up only five goals from thirty inside fifties. Disposal efficiency and discipline around contests hurt East Fremantle’s ability to create opportunities moving the ball forward. This enabled the Claremont players to take advantage of the countless unforced turnovers through the middle of the ground.
The last quarter saw East Fremantle kicking with the wind. Our boys used the breeze well and moved the ball with purpose, having the same amount of inside fifties in the last quarter as they had in the first three. This increase in purpose and effort saw East Fremantle double their score and draw even for the quarter with an impressive Claremont outfit.
The smaller players for East Fremantle were the standouts; Sam Coleman, Zac Henley, Cameron Grey, Chad Nilson and Mitch Brice all put their hand up at various stages of the game. Highlights included Brice’s chase down tackle on the Members’ wing and Sam Coleman’s goal of the year contender from the forward pocked.
East Fremantle’s focus now goes to the derby against South Fremantle at ATOM Stadium, this Friday at 1pm.
FINAL SCORE: East Fremantle 3.3 = 21 defeated by Claremont 12.18 = 90

15’s Late
The 15's Late team got their 2014 Carnival off to a flying start, proving too strong for a Claremont team that battled hard from the start.
Before the game the boys all looked very focussed and really wanted to continue to perform as a team, just as they did during the 2013 carnival.
Despite conceding the first goal of the game, the East Fremantle pups went on to dominate the remainder of the first quarter, leading at the first change by 5 goals.
The breeze freshened slightly to the end Claremont were kicking in the second quarter and they looked to capitalise early, again kicking the first goal of the quarter. There was definitely more pressure on each of our possessions, with some of our players making uncharacteristic errors. Claremont continued to pressure and kicked 3 for the quarter, but we responded with 2 goals late in the quarter.
Holding a 4 goal lead going into the second half, the team again dominated with the breeze at their backs, extending the lead to 7 goals at ¾ time. This lead was built on some exceptional tackling pressure and individual pieces of brilliance from a number of our players. They continued to run out the 4th quarter eventually winning by 8 goals.
Joey Eardley and Brandon Collard each dominated up forward kicking 5 and 6 goals respectively. They were well aided by a midfield group, led by captain Tom Peake, who continually put the ball in their hands. Jacob Menezes took a contender for mark of the year and Jaimon Alone toiled hard all day, managing to break through a number of Claremont tackles with his aggressive run and attack on the ball.
It wasn't the individuals that won this game for East Fremantle. It was the effort of the team. Each player had a role to play and they did so very well. They listened to all instructions given to them by the coaching staff and continually displayed the 1%ers that will win games.
It was a great start; here's hoping this can continue into Friday's game versus South Fremantle.
