WAFLW Derby Match Report

Thursday, April 3, 2025 - 2:47 PM

The Sharks dominated the Fremantle Derby all day leading the scoreboard at the end of the first 3 terms, but conceded 3 goals in just as many minutes resulting in a final score of 4.6 (30) to 5.3 (33).

The Sharks controlled the ball majority of the game, leading in both clearances (30 to 22) and inside 50’s (39 to 25) but struggled to convert this dominance on the score board, leaving them vulnerable in the final term.

Full forward Alicia Blizard put on a standout performance, slotting a goal in every quarter including a drop punt from deep in the right pocket to almost put the Dogs to sleep early in the 4th.

Captain Ashleigh Gomes also led strongly from the centre and created multiple scoring opportunities for her team, collecting 26 disposals and 7 inside 50’s.

However it appeared the scorching weather impacted many of the players and fatigue set in, as temperatures at Fremantle Oval reached 38 degrees at points during the match.

Despite the final result, the Sharks showed a strong brand of footy and should head into round two against Peel Thunder with confidence they can bring a tough contest.
