Pam Mikus - one of East Fremantle FC's most dedicated supporters
Pam Mikus is undoubtedly one of East Fremantle Football Club's most dedicated supporters, with her connection to the Club spanning well over five decades.
When she first moved to Australia, Pam knew nothing about Aussie Rules football. "I knew nothing about footy until my two sons started playing - unfortunately for Claremont, as that's where we lived," she recalls with a smile.
But it wasn’t long before Pam became a dedicated supporter of East Fremantle, the only WAFL team she's ever backed.
In the 1970s, Pam joined the Club as a member, and it quickly became a central part of her life. “My late husband won the lottery in 1981, so we used some of the winnings to buy lifetime memberships,” she shares. "I’ve had the benefits of mine for over 40 years."
Those memberships brought more than access to games - they led to deep friendships that have stood the test of time.
Pam fondly remembers the warmth of WA football legend Jack Sheedy, saying “He was a sweet, elderly gentleman who gave the best hugs!”. She understands that Jack played as a rover for East Fremantle in the post-war years from 1946 to 1955, during which time he took the field 173 times and kicked 266 goals, earning a reputation as a brilliant player. She encourages others to sign up for a Jack Sheedy Membership, believing in the importance of loyalty and community.
Pam’s favourite memories include the 1979 Grand Final victory against traditional rivals South Fremantle, an unforgettable day where she and her family stood on milk crates to watch the Sharks win.
A more recent memory was the 1992 Colts Grand Final. “My husband, who had worked with the team for several years, died in April of that year, and the Colts team dedicated their season to him - and won the Premiership! There wasn’t a dry eye in the change rooms afterwards – amid all the jubilation.”
This is your chance to join a community of East Fremantle’s most passionate supporters. It’s more than a membership; it's your contribution to the enduring legacy of the Club. Become a Shark for life here: https://membership.effc.com.au/subscriptions/jack-sheedy-membership
