Preliminary Final WAFLW Match Day Report
East Fremantle took on South Fremantle this past Sunday with a spot in this year’s grand final on the line. In team news, Georgie Cleaver and Elsie Simpson came into the side from the semi-final the week before. As anticipated, nothing was easy to come by for either team before the Bulldogs kicked the opener. Anjelique Raison importantly responded minutes later from nice build up work by Cleaver. The home side kicked their second taking a 6 point lead into quarter time. Both sides traded goals early in the second quarter with Grace Freeman making no mistake from her set shot. Chloe Reilly lifted the Sharks with two quick goals as the blue and whites headed to the main break with a 7 point advantage. The third quarter saw an arm wrestle ensue with the Sharks winning plenty of the ball through Sharon Wong and Hayley O’Donnell. South Fremantle controlled field territory however East Fremantle’s backs refused to yield maintaining a 5 point lead to set up a tense final term. East Fremantle lifted again around the ball before Reilly kicked her third and opened up a buffer for the Sharks. From there, they never looked back as Reilly and Versaci added two further goals as the Sharks ran out 23 point victors booking their place in this Saturday’s grand final at Mineral Resources Park, bounce down at 2.45pm.
