R16 WAFLW Match Day Report
In the final home and away round for 2023, East Fremantle travelled down the freeway to take on Peel Thunder in Mandurah this past Sunday. Georgie Cleaver, Zipporah Fish, Tiani Teakle and Elsie Simpson all returned to the side. The Sharks were the fast starters led by Beth Beckett in the middle of the ground as the quarter was played in the Sharks front half. Raison and then Teakle marked strongly near goal and converted truly to give the blue and whites a 14 point lead. It was a similar story in the second term with the Sharks peppering the goals without reward before a long range effort from Simpson sailed through extending the advantage to 25 points at half-time. Peel responded in the third term however the Sharks defensive group stood resolute while Ashleigh Gomes and Fish won a fair bit of the ball throughout the term. Clever work from a Larissa Versaci knock on gave Simpson an open run into goal for her second of the day. East Fremantle stuck to the task at hand in the final 18 minutes as Teakle kicked her second in the opening minute. In her second game back from injury Mylee Leitch kicked two quick goals before Georgie Cleaver stood tall and converted as the Sharks registered a 58 point win. East Fremantle take on Swan Districts in the first semi-final on Sunday at 12pm at Fremantle Oval.
