Sharon Wong to play 150th League Game
Sharon Wong, one of East Fremantle’s most decorated female footballers runs out for her 150th League match this Sunday against West Perth at Pentanet Stadium.
First playing football at her school All Saints College, Wong first played for the Sharks in 2007 at 17 years of age in the West Australian Women’s Football League.
It didn’t take Sharon very long to find her feet, winning East Fremantle’s League best and fairest award in 2008 playing 8 games. In 2009, she was instrumental in the team’s season as they were crowned premiers beating Coastal Titans with Wong named best on ground.
In 2011, Sharon helped the Sharks to more premiership glory against Coastal Titans before her 2012 season was unfortunately cut down due to an ACL injury. Sharon would return in 2013 playing 6 League games.
Injury struck again in 2015 where Sharon underwent ankle surgery before splitting her 2016 season in the Reserves and League taking home East Fremantle’s Reserves Best & Fairest.
2018 and 2019 cemented Wong’s place in the history of East Fremantle as she helped the club win back to back premierships against Subiaco and Swan Districts respectively, claiming the best and fairest in both premiership seasons.
In 2020 Sharon would win her third consecutive best and fairest, her fourth in total.
When you think Wong couldn’t achieve any more, in 2022 she claimed the Dhara Kerr medal for the first time being adjudged the best and fairest player in the WAFLW competition.
One of the Sharks most celebrated careers adds another chapter this Sunday as Wong pulls on the blue and white for the 150th time at League level.
From everyone at the Sharks, congratulations and go well Sharon.
