R11 WAFLW Match Day Report
WAFLW
In Round 11 WAFLW action the Sharks made the trip to Leederville Oval taking on East Perth this past Saturday.
Elsie Simpson and Grace Freeman made their League debuts after consistent form in the Rogers Cup. Taya Chambers returned from injury while Mid-West product Tayah Palmer returned to the side.
The first quarter was a tight battle between both midfield groups with the Sharks gaining field territory ascendency. Beth Beckett converted within the first minute to give the Sharks the start they wanted. The defensive group set up well behind the ball as the away side continued to create scoring opportunities before Georgia Bett kicked her first goal for the year giving the Sharks a 17 point quarter time lead.
East Fremantle extended their lead early in the second term as Ashleigh Gomes found Georgie Cleaver on a lead. East Perth responded minutes later before debutant Freeman weaved around two would be tacklers to kick her first goal in League footy. The Sharks headed into the main break with a 28 point advantage.
The midfield brigade got to work in the third term around clearance and importantly the Sharks converted their opportunities with Cleaver kicking her second for the day before Palmer kicked two in four minutes.
It was much of the same in the final term beginning with the midfield as Chloe Reilly snapped truly before quick thinking from Anjelique Raison added the Sharks ninth as they recorded a 61 point win. This week we celebrate NAIDOC Round taking on West Perth on Sunday May 28 at Pentanet Stadium, 1pm bounce down.
