R10 WAFLW Match Report
WAFLW
It was the annual A-Team round this weekend as East Fremantle and Subiaco Football Clubs raised awareness and funds for Ariella Italiano and the TBC1D24 foundation. Ashleigh Gomes and Samara Pluschke returned to the starting 21 as Gomes recorded her 100th East Fremantle League game while Hayley O’Donnell ran out in her 50th League game.
The Sharks gained ascendency around clearance in the opening part of the game however struggled to control the ball going forward. Subiaco meanwhile were able to make more of their opportunities as they kicked three unanswered first quarter goals heading into the first break with all the momentum.
The Sharks were able to connect better in the second term with their ball movement as Anjelique Raison slotted the Sharks first major. The home side continued to create opportunities to finish the quarter off as they trailed by 8 points at the main break.
The third term saw Subiaco control territory however East Fremantle’s backs held up well before Raison kicked truly for her second after some nice build up work. Subiaco however got their reward with a late goal to maintain their buffer.
Both sides traded blows early in the final term before the all-important first goal of the term belonged to the Sharks as Raison kicked her third from long range. The Lions however refused to lie down as their fifth goal for the game came at the 10 min mark which was enough for them to record a 10 point win and take home the A-Team trophy. The Sharks head to Leederville Oval this Saturday to take on East Perth at 1pm.
