An early road trip led us to Joondalup to take on West Perth. On a beautiful day for footy the boys went in full of confidence after their strong win against Perth last week.
The game started well for us kicking an early goal and dominating around the ground. West Perth hit back late in the first quarter to take a small lead in to the quarter time break.
Unfortunately, from quarter time on West Perth dominated the game in all areas and did not allow us to get our game going at all. Whilst we tried to move the ball as we would like, the pressure and physicality of the opposition was relentless and we just could not get our game going at all.
Whilst it was not our best display, the boys stuck at it for the whole game and never stopped trying. Credit must go to West Perth who were very good over the full four quarters.
Kaiden Summerell continued his good form, Harry Cox and Riaz Mohammad were valiant in their efforts all day , whilst Riley Clarke battled manfully in the ruck. Rhama Evans also worked hard in the midfield.
A week is a long time in football, and we look forward to getting back on the field this Sunday at 11:40am to take on Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium.
The colts took on West Perth in their first scratch match of the season.
The game was a tight tussle from start to finish with some good football displayed across the game from both sides.
West Perth started the game well in first quarter and played some good cohesive football. We were able to work hard to keep ourselves in the game and only trail by 11 points at quarter time.
The second quarter saw us find some run and carry and we were able to open up our forward line allowing us to apply some scoreboard pressure and kick 3 goals for the term. A strong second quarter saw us go in at half time three points down.
The third quarter proved to be our best playing a great brand of running football , allowing our forwards to capitalise with 5 goals for the quarter , with our small forwards proving very lively working around the feet of our talls.
The last quarter went from end to end with the lead changing hands a few times. Our boys steadied in the last five minutes kicking the last couple of goals of the game to record a 10-point win.
It was pleasing to see the team execute the game style and plans that they have worked hard on over the last few months at training.
A good mix of goalkickers on the day saw, Tyler Messina , Griff Vladich and Dante Wiseman all contribute three goals each.
Some better players on the day were Chadd Dunscombe who won many hard ball possessions , Koen Sanchez with a good mix of inside and outside ball, James Spadanuda provided some great run from defence and Declan Pauline was a very consistent performer all day on his wing.
This week we take on Claremont, 9am on Sunday at Revo Fitness Stadium.
