WAFLW & Rogers Cup Round 1 Match Day Recap thanks to Sponsors The Left Bank
Thanks to club Sponsor The Left Bank, please see below our Round 1 WAFLW Rogers Cup Match Day Recap:
WAFLW
East Fremantle kicked off their 2023 WAFLW campaign this past Sunday against Claremont at Pentanet Stadium.
Tara Maciupa made her debut having being presented her jumper by team mate Ashlee Atkins pre-game.
The Sharks started strongly around the contest and controlled field position however struggled to capitalise on the scoreboard with the sole major coming from an Anjelique Raison set shot.
Claremont responded in the second stanza with the key markers being reversed from the opening 18 minutes. The Sharks had limited opportunities in front of goal with Gabby O’Sullivan and debutant Maciupa both hitting the woodwork.
The opening of the third term was an arm wrestle between the two sides before a major to O’Sullivan pushed the Sharks lead to 8 points only for the Tigers to respond minutes later setting up a tight final term.
As expected, the game went down to the wire with East Fremantle winning enough of the ball however found it difficult at times to move the ball into scoring opportunities. The home side kicked a goal half-way through the quarter which was enough as the Sharks went down by 6 points.
