2023 Sharks Futures Update

Friday, March 3, 2023 - 10:53 AM

Over the last couple of weeks our Futures boys have participated in two hard fought scratch matches to prepare  for their upcoming carnival.

Our first match was against a strong Subiaco side last Saturday.  With several players unavailable due to school and summer sports commitments, along with a couple of injuries it gave the players a great opportunity to showcase their talent and put into play the plans that they have been working hard on at training.  Although we were outnumbered by a large Subiaco squad it was pleasing to see it all come together for the boys and them enjoying a game day environment, against some very good opposition.

In some very warm conditions last night we took on the Winnacott Eagles colt’s side.  On a very lush looking Winnacott Reserve the game was played at a frantic pace as both sides enjoyed the open spaces and freedom to play fast uncongested football.  Some of the passages displayed from both sides were a pleasure to watch and judging on what was displayed both teams will be looking forward to successful upcoming seasons.

After last night’s match the players and parents of our Futures group were given a presentation on the upcoming carnival.

Our leadership group for the 2023 campaign was announced with the following players:

Jake Boniwell , Rhama Evans , Luke Carrello , Oli McManus , Harry Cox and Tom Phillips.

As part of the presentation,  East Fremantle League Captain Matthew Jupp spoke with the group and related his football story so far.   Matt also touched on balancing football with school and work, along with coping with setbacks.  A key message that was very clear from Matt was that professionalism, high standards and a great team culture are crucial keys to success.

A big Thankyou to both Subiaco FC and Winnacott Eagles FC for their hospitality on each of the respective days and Matthew Jupp for taking the time to come and speak with the boys, it was most appreciated by all involved.

With our first game just over a week away the excitement builds for player and coaches. After a long hot summer of commitment and hard work we all look forward next Sunday (12th March) for our first game against Perth at Mineral Resources Park , I would encourage any supporters who are eager to watch some live football to come along and watch our up and coming young stars.
