Monday, September 19, 2022 - 5:41 PM

East Fremantle head back to New Choice Homes Park this weekend where they will take on Claremont in a Preliminary Final which will see the victor take on West Perth in the WAFL Grand Final.

The Sharks had the chance to seal their place in the big dance but couldn’t get across the line on Saturday going down to West Perth 12.9 (81) to 8.13 (61) at Pentanet Stadium.

West Perth got off to a fast start, dominating clearances to put the Sharks on the back foot, by kicking 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the first quarter. The Sharks settled with goals to Jarrad Jansen and Luke English and the scores were level at quarter time.

Milan Murdock kicked a superb goal to open the 2nd quarter, West Perth kicked the next 5 goals of the game to open up a 20 point lead early in the 3rd quarter. The Sharks lifted but were wasteful in front of goal, kicking 2.4 in the quarter to reduce the margin to 13 points at the last break.

East Fremantle got off to a strong start but couldn’t capitalise, missing 3 set shots in the first 10 minutes to reduce the margin to 10 points before a Mitch Peirce goal from a free kick gave the Falcons some breathing space.

East Fremantle kept coming but were unable to reduce the gap and West Perth were the first team to qualify for the Grand Final with a 20 point win.

Better players for the Sharks were Milan Murdock, who had 30 disposals and 9 clearances, Tom Bennett who collected 23 disposals, 7 tackles and kicked 2 goals, and Jackson McDonald, who had 24 disposals, 5 clearances, 9 tackles and kicked a goal.
