Round 20 Reserves Wrap

Monday, September 5, 2022 - 8:30 PM

The East Fremantle Reserves finished their year in style with a thrilling 1 point victory against East Perth at Leederville on Saturday.

East Perth had held sway for most of the day before a Darcy Wills/Eddie Simpson double act saw the Sharks open up a 25 point lead at 3/4 time.

The third quarter saw the young Sharks play some of their best football of the season, capitalising on the good work of ruckman, Kyle White and finding strong targets up forward in Wills and Simpson.

The game wasn’t over and East Perth kicked the opening goal of the last quarter within a minute and continued to push hard for victory. Tom Wallis, having been moved up forward, had opportunities to ice the game in the last before the Royals ran out of time and the Sharks prevailed by a point.

Better players were Eddie Simpson, playing against his old side he managed 19 disposals, 5 marks, 7 clearances and kicked 2 goals, midfielder Enrique Aiken-Featherstone, who collected 31 disposals, 4 clearances, 5 tackles and 7 score involvements and Matthew Burton, who worked hard for 27 disposals, 6 clearances and kicked a goal. Darcy Wills also provided a strong target up forward and kicked 3 goals.

The game rounds off a tough year for the developing Sharks, winning 5 games to finish 2 games out of the finals.  A number of the players will continue to train on with the Senior side as they push for their first flag in 24 years.
