Rd 20 League - The Left Bank Wrap Up with Taylor Cowper
East Fremantle have secured a home final at New Choice Homes Park after a comfortable win against East Perth last Saturday afternoon.
They take on third placed Claremont this Saturday in what will be the Sharks first finals appearance in more than 7 years.
It was a frustrating first half from the Sharks, who dominated field position but were unable to find a reliable avenue to goal. But they managed to break away in the 3rd quarter and keep the Royals at arm’s length before winning 7.11 (53) to 3.14 (32).
Kyle Baskerville was superb with 31 disposals and 7 clearances, celebrating his 50th WAFL game, while Josh Schoenfeld had an outstanding game, finishing with 32 touches.
Sharks Captain Matthew Jupp said post-game “The first half was not the style of footy that we expect from ourselves. It was a pretty rough affair against East Perth. Conditions were really ugly and we didn’t start well.”
“At the end of the day we got the job done. To finish second on the ladder is a great reward for a great season so far.”
Jupp is excited about the opportunity to have a home final at East Fremantle Oval. “Playing finals footy is an exciting time for our club, players, and supporters”, said Jupp. “It’s an opportunity we will take and relish. They don’t come around that often”.
“I’ve been in the Shark's system for 12 years and this is the third time I will be playing in a final. We just have to make the most of every opportunity that we have in front of us and show what we have got”, said Jupp.
