Rd 19 League - The Left Bank Wrap Up with Taylor Cowper

Monday, August 29, 2022 - 12:05 PM

East Fremantle produced one of their best performances for the season on Saturday afternoon defeating Claremont by 45 points.

It boosts the Sharks premiership credentials as it broke the drought against the Tigers, who had won the last 11 encounters.

The 11.17 (83) to 5.8 (38) win put the Sharks second on the WAFL ladder behind West Perth. The Sharks have one more game of the regular season against East Perth this Saturday afternoon. A win against East Perth will set the Sharks up to host a home qualifying final.

The Sharks won the all-important midfield battle with Milan Murdock leading the way with 28 touches, 11 tackles and 8 inside 50’s.

Not too far behind him was Kyle Baskerville with 26 disposals and added 8 clearances also with Cam Eardley playing a great game off half back securing 33 disposals.

East Fremantle Captain Matthew Jupp said that it was great to get the win over the Claremont side. “It was a really exciting win. We haven’t beaten Claremont for years and to do it in that fashion and to put ourselves ahead of them on the ladder is a great win for our club and players”.

“There were no individual stand out performances but as a team we played really well balanced,” said Jupp. ”We tackled hard when we were under pressure. Especially early on, we were really good. We were all up to the fight”.

With one round to go in the regular season Jupp said that there is still lots of hard work to be done but is proud of where the team is at. “Regardless of the external noise around the club we believe that we are good enough. We know what we are capable of, and we don’t need other people to validate and justify that. We are on a mission this year and this win is a step in the direction to accomplish what we want”.
