Round 18 - Colts Wrap Up
On a beautiful spring morning the young Sharks headed to the WACA for our last home game of the season against Swan Districts.
After our bye last weekend, the squad refreshed, trained well and set themselves for a big effort.
The first half of the game was evenly contested with neither side managing to break away. Although the weather was fine the conditions were a little tricky due to the morning dew on the oval. Swans took a 10-point lead into the half time break.
The third quarter saw us produce some of our best football for the season as we took control of the game and managed to add 6 goals for the quarter whilst holding Swans goalless.
Turning for home we held a comfortable 25-point lead , which should have been enough to hold on for a victory. Unfortunately for us Swans had other ideas and started the quarter with 4 very quick goals to even up the contest. With the scores tied and a couple of minutes to go the ball bounced from end to end, as stoppage after stoppage was created with both sides desperate for a score to break the deadlock. A quick kick from a stoppage landed in Swan Districts players arms 35 metres out from goal. With the siren sounding to finish the game the Swans player took the kick to score a behind, unfortunately for us it was enough to give Swans a 1-point victory.
Although it was a heartbreaking loss the team showed in the third quarter when they play to instructions and with discipline, they are capable of some very good football.
Some good performers on the day were Elijah Burrows through the midfield and defence , Luke Kenny was consistent over 4 quarters and finished with 2 goals , along with Zac Petersen who continually found the ball all day.
Congratulations to our two colts debutants on the day Declan Pauline and Noah Cattalini , both from Melville JFC.
Our next game is against Claremont on Saturday, 9.10am at Revo Fitness Stadium. Colts games can be viewed live and online at www.streamer.com.au
