Rd 16 League - The Left Bank Wrap Up with Taylor Cowper
It was not the day the Sharks were hoping for. It was billed as the top of the table clash but East Fremantle struggled to fire at Pentanet Stadium on Saturday against West Perth with the home side pulling away late to win by 36 points.
The Sharks got up by 2 points the last time these two sides played but that wasn’t the case this time around with West Perth moving 6 points clear of the Sharks on the WAFL ladder.
The game in Joondalup had many ebbs and flows with the Falcons gaining control in the final term. The Sharks were held goalless in the final term and looked stunned after the Falcons added five goals late in the game.
The Falcons had control of the first kicking three goals to the Sharks 2 points but East Fremantle bounced back in the 2nd term to hold the lead heading into the main break after kicking 4 goals.
Sharks captain Matthew Jupp was tremendous down back on Tyler Keitel but that allowed Rudy Riddock to have some space and finished with 4 goals for the afternoon.
The Sharks struggled without key forward Jon Marsh who missed the game through work commitments and an injury to gun midfielder Blaine Boekhorst stalled the teams 3rd quarter momentum.
Jeremy Goddard played an important role as Ruckman whilst also pushing forwards at times and was rewarded in the third kicking the Sharks only goal of the quarter.
Jack Cleaver was another promising sign on debut finishing the game with an impressive 18 disposals and 6 marks along with Kyle Baskerville who collected 29 possessions and 7 inside 50's.
East Fremantle will take a well earned break when they have a bye this round and will head into the final stretch of the home and away season against Swan Districts at the WACA Ground in two weeks’ time.
