Rd 14 - Colts Wrap Up
Unfortunately for the young Sharks they were not able to hold on in the wet and slippery conditions on Saturday.
The game started well for the Sharks gaining an early ascendancy and kicking the only two goals of the first quarter. After the first 10 minutes the boys started to play wet weather football by getting the ball forward any way they could. The first goal was kicked by Jayke Scott from the top of the goal square aided by a 50-metre penalty. It did not take long to hit the scoreboard again when Sam Otto found himself free and slotted his first goal of the day. The team finished the first quarter on 2 goals 1 behind whilst holding South to just a behind.
The second quarter saw the showers continue and it became a game of territory as both sides did everything they could to move the ball forward. Half time came and we held an eight point lead heading into the main break.
The third quarter was an even quarter where loose ball was hard to find in the tough conditions, an excellent left foot snap crumbing the ball of a pack from 35 metres out to James Spadanuda gave East Fremantle a mini break, only to see South pinch it back late in the quarter.
Going into the final term the Sharks held a handy 7 point lead. South started the last quarter with a couple of early goals to wrestle back the momentum and East Fremantle were now in a position where they had to take some risks to find that elusive goal. Unfortunately, the goal wasn’t to come despite having some chances , and South Fremantle kicked another goal late in the game to seal the match.
For 3 quarters East Fremantle were very good they just could not maintain the focus and pressure for the final quarter, ultimately allowing South Fremantle to get the win.
Better contributors for the Sharks were James Spadanuda with 22 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal, Jack Johnston impacted the game whilst in the midfield and as a forward finishing with 21 disposals, including 5 inside 50’s and Luke Yeo who provided some real grunt in the midfield with 12 contested possessions along with 11 tackles.
Congratulations to Jayden Davis from Towns (Geraldton) and Mitchell Zadow from Pinjarra on their first colts game for the Sharks.
This Saturday 30th July the Sharks take on the Perth Demons at the WACA.
