Monday, July 11, 2022 - 6:03 PM

A fantastic start pushed East Fremantle to their second straight victory to remain second on the WAFL ladder, defeating the Lions by 25 points at Leederville Oval on Saturday afternoon.

East Fremantle came out firing with a tremendous first quarter kicking 4 goals inside 10 minutes to eventually win the game 9.11 (65) to 6.4 (40).

Jarrad Jansen opened the account for the Sharks booting a goal from the first inside 50 for the game in a wet and windy encounter at Leederville Oval.

Blaine Boekhorst continued his amazing form collecting a game-high 37 disposals.

Cam Eardley was solid in defence collecting 33 possessions.

Jeremy Goddard was also outstanding with 56 hit-outs and gave the Sharks first use of the ball that capitalised on an undermanned Lions side.

After a wet first half the Sharks went into half time with a 24 point lead.

Jonothan Marsh was in the action early in the second half, soccering off the ground to kick his second and the Sharks’ first of the half.

Ryan Lester-Smith joined the goal scoring with an incredible goal from the boundary which some have described as the goal of the year.

The weather got worse in the last quarter with the Sharks securing the win.

Blaine Boekhorst said that it was a hard fought win for the Sharks. “It wasn’t a great day for football, but we stuck in there,” he said.

“Contested ball, territory and surges is what you have to do in these types of games.

“I feel like as a team and as a midfield, we did that and helped the forwards out.”
