Rd 9 League - The Left Bank Wrap Up with Taylor Cowper
East Fremantle lost an arm-wrestle on Saturday losing to Claremont by 16 points at the WACA Ground.
The Sharks enjoyed periods of dominance during the game but it was the visitors who kicked three of the last four goals to overrun the Sharks, claiming victory 14.11 (95) to 11.13 (79).
The Tigers came out strong to get a commanding lead in the first quarter, despite kicking into a stiff breeze.
After trailing by a game-high margin of 24 points, the shell-shocked Sharks wrestled back momentum, kicking 6.1 for the quarter to snatch the lead late in the opening stanza.
Alex Montauban was excellent for the Sharks, at one stage getting the ball in the defensive half of the ground to take 2 bounces and get a goal to inspire the side.
Kicking with the breeze, the Tigers gained control in the second term but couldn’t capitalise, kicking six-straight behinds before taking a 7 point lead into the long break.
Blaine Boekhorst scored the first major of the second half before a snap from Ryan Lester-Smith bounced over the head of two wrestling opponents in the goal square to extend the Sharks’ lead to 10 points. East Fremantle tried desperately to extend the 3/4 time lead but kicked a wasteful 3.7 for the term, while a break in concentration saw Claremont kick a late goal from a 50m penalty to reduce the margin to 4 points going into the last.
East Fremantle controlled large parts of the last quarter but were unable to put it on the scoreboard before 4 quick Tiger goals extended the lead past 20. Marsh reduced the deficit to 16 points but it was all too late as the siren sounded to hand the Tigers their third-straight win.
