Rd 9 - Match Preview with Taylor Cowper
East Fremantle continue playing top of the table sides this week with a home game against Claremont on Saturday.
Claremont currently sit third on the WAFL ladder and are just behind the Sharks with only percentage points between them.
The Sharks head in to this game after narrowly defeating West Perth last weekend in a game that went down to the wire. The Tigers also head in to this game with form after thrashing West Coast last weekend and are currently on a two game winning streak.
League Coach Bill Monaghan said there is lots to be learnt from the 2 point victory over West Perth. “We did a lot right and a lot wrong. They (West Perth) had moments but so did we. There has been a couple of close games this year and we have been able to stick to the task and that’s great for our growth”.
“It’s another tough one. Claremont are a really good outfit. They have a quality midfield and dangerous forwards,” said Monaghan. “The weather may be wild and windy which will add another factor. But we just keep working on being good around the ball and exposing sides on the outside with our run. It’s business as usual against a very good opposition”.
Corey Holmes has been omitted from the side but will be playing in the Reserves this weekend. “Corey has been really good but we just needed to strengthen our defence a bit. It’s one of the tough parts of playing strong footy is guys are unlucky to miss out”.
Jeremy Goddard, who played 31 games for Claremont, will come up against his former team for the first time. The Ruckman has been solid for the Sharks this season and will be looking to continue his form this weekend against his former teammates.
Durak Tucker will return to the side this week having missed last week with illness.
League Bounce down is 2.10pm, Saturday the 18th at the WACA. The game will be broadcast live through the AFL App or AFL.com.au and Colts game via Streamer.
WACA members will also have free access to all games at the WACA.
