Rd 7 League - The Left Bank Wrap Up with Taylor Cowper
South Fremantle continued their winning streak in Fremantle Derbies with a two-point win in a thrilling game at Fremantle Oval on Monday.
The Sharks had an opportunity to secure the victory in the dying seconds of the game with Cam Eardley missing a set shot on goal after taking a strong contested mark in the forward line.
After a dour first quarter where South Fremantle held the accendency, the Sharks sprung to life, kicking seven goals to one to open a handy lead. Led in the middle by midfielder Milan Murdock (32 touches, 10 tackles, four inside 50s), East Fremantle took control of the game.
The Sharks headed into the main break leading by 21 points.
Like all good sides, South Fremantle responded after half time. The Sharks kicked the first goal of the quarter but from there South Fremantle kicked six consecutive goals in front of the big home crowd to wrestle back the lead.
It set up a tight final quarter and after the Bulldogs kicked the first goal at the 9 minute mark, the game was slipping away from the Sharks. But they once again responded, with goals to Blaine Boekhorst and Corey Holmes reducing the margin to 2 points with minutes to play. East Fremantle kept attacking, creating the opportunity for Cam Eardley, before time ran out in a classic encounter.
The Sharks next game is this Saturday the 11th of June against West Perth at the WACA ground at 2.10pm. You can watch the game live through the AFL app or through AFL.com.au
