Rd 16 - WAFLW Wrap with Daisy Brown
After missing finals in 2021, the East Fremantle Sharks WAFLW team have secured the minor premiership with a game to spare. A dominant 8.14 – 62 to 0.0 – 0 win over West Perth on Sunday saw the Sharks secure top spot, holding their opponents to just one inside-50 for the game.
The Sharks kicked 6.11 to the half, taking a 47-point lead into half-time, but were held by West Perth to just 2.3 for the remainder of the game. The Sharks dominated possession 324-182, and piled on 54 inside-50s for the match.
Typical defender Torrens Revell kicked two goals for the game, as did dominant forward Julia Teakle. Amber Kinnane and Ashleigh Gomes ran the game in the middle of the ground with 32 possessions each, with Amber Kinnane being judged best afield. Ash Atkins was also very strong with an impressive 28 touches and 9 tackles.
Karla Stagg was strong in defence for the Falcons, amassing 18 disposals, whilst ruck Cameron Dawson was dominant with 23 hit-outs and 5 tackles. Elissa Price also performed well for the Falcons, taking 10 marks for the game.
The final match of the home-and-away League season is a derby, with East Fremantle taking on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday June 11th at 2:10pm, with the Rogers Cup playing just before at 12:10pm. Our Reserves side will take on Claremont on the same day at Shark Park at 10am.
