Round 1 League Wrap Up With Taylor Cowper - Thanks to The Left Bank
ROUND 1 WRAP UP WITH TAYLOR COWPER - THANKS TO THE LEFT BANK
East Fremantle looked promising at times but a late surge from Peel Thunder saw the home team finish Good Friday victors at Lane Group Stadium.
The game was almost goal for goal in the first 3 quarters before Peel ran away with the win.
The first quarter saw massive amounts of pressure applied by both teams but it was a late goal that saw the Sharks heading in to the break trailing by just three points.
The second quarter pressure continued with East Fremantle locking the ball inside 50 for 3 behinds before the first goal by Lachlan Bailey was scored deep in the forward pocket.
Cam Eardley was superb down back for the Sharks keeping the Peel forwards to 7 goals in the first half with some really promising signs for midfielder Milan Murdock who had 15 disposals to half time after his return from a broken leg.
A goal by Jonathon Marsh on the siren gave the Sharks confidence heading in to half time with Peel leading by 2 points.
Start of the second half saw the Sharks come out firing. A goal to start the third by Peel in the first 30 seconds saw 3 quick goals by Easts to get a 7 point lead heading in to the last break.
Three goals for Peel to start the fourth saw the home side get out to a quick 11 point lead. A goal to Dillon O’Reilly gave the Sharks hope halfway through the term but two quick goals out of centre clearances saw Peel take command of the game.
Bill Monaghan said, “It’s really disappointing because we were so good for three quarters. There are some good positives to take away. If we can play like we did for the first three it would be a very different story”.
Inaccurate kicking was the killer for the Sharks with 12 behinds for the game. Coach Bill Monaghan said, “We can practice that all we want and on a good week we would want to kick more. Goal kicking clearly hurt us”.
The Sharks take on Swan Districts next Saturday and Monaghan said goal kicking will be the focus. “Playing four quarters of footy and cleaning up our forward 50 entries will be key and hopefully kick a few more goals next week“.
East Fremantle take on Swan Districts at Blue Steel Oval next Saturday the 23rd of April. Bounce down is 2pm.
