WAFLW MID SEASON REPORT WITH NIKKI HARWOOD - EFWFC HEAD OF FOOTBALL
MID SEASON REPORT WITH NIKKI HARWOOD - EFWFC HEAD OF FOOTBALL
Our Sharks have had an impressive start to season 2022! Lead by three new Head Coaches in Matt Templeton (League), James Depane (Reserves) and Alex Williams (Rogers Cup) our teams are sitting second, third and second on their respective ladders after 6 rounds.
A perfect mix of youth and experience in our League team may be attributed to the flawless 5 and 0 start to the season. League team has had 14 debutants (5 of them Rogers Cup). Dynamic midfield duo Ashleigh Gomes (Captain) and Sharon Wong (legend) consistently lead the way alongside future AFLW prospects Zippy Fish, Taya Chambers and Tash Entwistle, who are just 15 years old! Busselton talent Beth Beckett has had a significant impact in the midfield in her first year at the Sharks using her strength, speed and agility to break through congestion with ease. Geraldton product, Julia Teakle is leading East Fremantle’s League Goal Scoring (11 goals) and is second in the WAFLW League Goal Scoring.
Having lost the first two games of the season, our Reserves have bounced back in style winning their past three games. An overwhelming influx of new and youth aged players at the club, Reserves have debuted 23 players, including 10 youth aged players to date. Experienced campaigners Stef Italiano (Captain), Elle Sanders and Karen Salkilld have taken these newbies under their fins and have front row seats to the rapid rise of developing stars Em Fiedler, Reanne Pickett and Chloe Williams who continue to grow week in, week out. Gabby Radojkovich is leading East Fremantle’s Reserves Goal Scoring (8 goals) and is second in the WAFLW Reserves Goal Scoring.
Rogers Cup have started the season strong with 5 wins and 1 loss with 20 players debuting in the blue and white. Lead strongly by Taya Chambers (Captain) and Jaya Ingram (Vice Captain) both players have been rewarded with League selection in recent weeks. Consistent and versatile ruck trio Madi Evans, Jayda Jones and Tiani Teakle are proving to be a nightmare for opposition teams to match up on due to their outstanding ability to impact in the ruck and around the ground. Capitalising on the ruck dominance, crafty midfielders Caylen Crook, Summer Pollard and Sienna Jezierski-Brown have been influential in the teams fast starts. The future of this team is exciting! Nicole Taylor-Thorpe is leading East Fremantle Roger’s Cup Goal Scoring and is second in the WAFLW Roger’s Cup Goal Scoring.
