PRE-SEASON UPDATE WITH JONATHON MARSH
With the entire squad coming back in ripping nick, we hit the ground running with our pre-season for the 2022 season. The pre-Christmas block of training was the best I have seen since being part of the club, in regard to our intensity and skill level.
On top of high training standards, I believe the players are reaching new levels with their enjoyment and buy in to the program, I think Juppy will back me up in saying I have never seen so many players doing extras off their own back to better themselves. This has been a focus for the past few seasons.
Having a crop of fresh faces come up from the Colts has been exciting. We have integrated them into our system and the young boys are doing well with their first taste of senior football.
Wrapping up our first block of training we had a sausage sizzle with the entire women’s and men’s team. This was a great way to send off the year and consolidate our one club approach.
Coming back from our break we have picked up where we left off and trained with real intensity from the get-go. The squad has managed to do this without some of our more experienced heads on the track with the likes of Matthew Jupp, Josh Schoenfield, Cody Leggett and Cam Eardley building their way back nicely. This has allowed some new faces to step up into a leadership role with Tom Bennett, Kyle Baskerville and Finn Gorringe being three noticeable standouts in that area.
There have been some real standouts on the track. Our silky half back, Jaime Meade, still hasn’t said a word all pre-season but has been carving up with his skills and speed. Cody Smith is doing his best, Mark Blicavs impression by being a 98kg wingman and one of our fittest players. Milan Murdock is pretty much training like the energiser bunny with a fresh set of batteries every session. When we manage to get Brynn Teakle away from a mirror he has trained extremely well. I still help Durak Tucker tie his boots up but after that no one has been able to lay a finger on him. Alex Montauban has been training strong. Ethan Paholski decided to bring his own broom to training and so far has cleaned up four people and when Chris Walker arrives to the right venue his training has been electric.
All In all, our training to date has been red hot. Collectively as players, coaches, and staff we are extremely focused on improvement and very excited to see what the 2022 season has in store for us. Bring on the 2022 season.
