Sharks Stun Lions at Leederville
The East Fremantle Football Club have returned to the winners list in emphatic fashion, defeating the Subiaco Lions at Leederville Oval.
The Sharks victory over the Lions breaks a 6-year drought, with the 16.12 (108) to 9.10 (64) victory arguably the Sharks best win of the season.
Subiaco led by 27 points 20 minutes into the second term, but it was a 12 goal stretch which turned the tide for the Sharks, East Fremantle keeping Subiaco scoreless in the process.
East Fremantle, trailing by 14 points at half time, proceeded to kick seven goals to no score in the third term to open what would end up being a match winning 29-point lead at three quarter time.
Subiaco were able to kick multiple goals midway through the final term to reduce the margin to 34 points but by then the damage had been done, the Sharks kicking away once more to run out 44-point winners.
Jonathon Marsh was adjudged the PetraClean Player of the Day for his performance against the Lions. The midfielder-forward kicked three goals to go with his 27 disposals to be adjudged the best on ground in the Sharks win.
Luke Strnadica played arguably his best game of the season, the ruckman recording a mammoth 50 hit-outs to go with 17 disposals and two goals.
Kyle Baskerville continued his solid form recording 27 disposals, seven tackles and four marks while half back Michael Tassone collected 25 touches, six marks and three tackles.
Hugh Dixon led from the front, kicking three goals from 18 disposals while Tom Bennett, Dillon O'Reilly and Matthew Burton also kicked two goals apiece.
The Sharks return to Leederville Oval this Saturday to take on the East Perth Royals. The Sharks defeated the Royals in Round 3 of the Optus WAFL Premiership Season and will be looking to record back-to-back wins at the venue this weekend.
