Round 16 | Match Report
East Fremantle have fallen short of a strong Claremont Tigers side at Revo Fitness Stadium in Round 16 of the Optus WAFL Premiership Season.
The Sharks kicked the first goal of the match before Claremont claimed ascendency, leading by 11 points at the quarter time.
East Fremantle fought back, winning the second term 2.5 (17 points) to 2.1 (13 points) to trail by seven points at the main break.
The Tigers responded to the second quarter mini-Sharks comeback, a four goal to nine second half meaning Claremont were able to extend their five-year dominance over the Sharks.
East Fremantle’s 7.11 (53) to 14.12 (96) loss puts emphasis on this weekend’s important game against the Swans, where the Sharks could climb up the ladder with a win.
One positive to come from the match was the continued emergence of Kyle Baskerville. The midfielder was once again named the PetraClean Player of the Day for his career best performance which included a massive 35 disposals, nine clearances and 11 tackles.
The midfield trio of Cameron Eardley, Luke English and Michael Tassone combined for 72 disposals, 18 marks and 7 disposals. Jarrad Jansen was also impressive in the middle of the ground, accumulating 19 disposals and a workmanlike 9 tackles.
Nick Kommer starred early as he kicked 3 goals to be the Sharks only multiple goal kicker while Jamie Meade was named amongst the best on ground during his 17-disposal, 7 tackle game in defence.
The Sharks return home this weekend to take on the inform Swan Districts. Bill Monaghan’s side will be looking to return to the winners list and get revenge after the Swans were able to get the better of the Sharks earlier in the season.
