Round 6 | Match Report
East Fremantle have recorded a thumping win over the West Coast Eagles on the weekend, recording their biggest winning margin in over a decade in the 22.15 (147) to 3.4 (22) victory.
It is the Sharks first victory over the West Coast Eagles since they joined to competition in 2019 (did not play in 2020) and helped the club secure a top 5 spot heading into the state bye.
East Fremantle, having conceded the opening goal of the game within the first 90 seconds, kicked four goals in the first term and continued to score heavily throughout the match.
The Sharks kicked seven goals in the second term, four goals in the third term and finished with seven more goals to pile on the pain for West Coast, who were only able to kick three for the match.
The home side dominated possession (471-246 disposals), hit-outs (60-29) and inside 50’s (65-16) throughout the win but it was the four-quarter effort, especially defensively, which pleased head coach Bill Monaghan.
Jonathon Marsh was the stand-out player of the day, kicking five first-half goals on his was to a career high seven goals for the match to be adjudged the PetraClean Player of the Day.
Marsh also collected 24 disposals and a massive 13 marks as he moved himself up to 7th on the WAFL goalkicking tally for 2021.
Ruckman Luke Strnadica once again dominating the ruck contest as he became the first player to reach 200 WAFL hit-outs for season 2021. Strnadica recorded a mammoth 52 hit-outs, 24 disposals and 10 marks against the Eagles.
Blaine Boekhorst was also fantastic on the wing, recording 41 disposals to go with 8 marks and six inside 50’s while showing his usual run and dash. Josh Schoenfeld continued his stellar debut season with the Sharks as he had 41 disposals, six inside 50’s and a workman-like 13 tackles.
Luke English (34 disposals), Morgan Davies (31), Jarrad Jansen (30) and Cameron Eardley (29) combined for 124 disposals, 15 tackles, 20 marks and five goals in a dominant display from the Sharks midfield.
Jakob Ah Chee showed the run and dash which had earnt him his league debut in a promising display which produced 12 disposals, nine tackles and a debut goal.
