Round 3 Match Preview | Sharks v Royals
The Sharks return to New Choice Homes Park this Saturday to host East Perth in Round 3 of the Optus WAFL.
Disappointed after last week’s lost to Subiaco, East Fremantle will need to produce four strong quarters of footy to get them across the line on Saturday.
Despite the result, Senior Coach Bill Monaghan was pleased with his side’s effort last week.
“I was really happy with our ability to win contested ball, our clearance work was strong and we matched with them for three quarters,” Monaghan said.
“That’s where Subi have been really strong over a number of years now, they wear the opposition down.
“A couple of bad turnovers in the start of the last quarter and they got on top and we weren’t able to suspend the tide, so a disappointing last quarter after a good three quarters.”
The team goes relatively unchanged with, Matt Burton, Ryan Lester-Smith, Cody Smith and Michael Tassone coming into the extended squad.
After a big loss to Peel Thunder last week, Monaghan expects a tough showing from the Royals tomorrow.
“I think they’ll come out and give it a red-hot crack, they are a proud club and still a very good team.”
“They were competitive for three quarters against Subiaco so we’ve planned for the very best that they’ve got, and if we don’t, I’m sure we will get their best.”
The Reserves face a tough task against a strong East Perth outfit who haven’t lost a game since August 2019.
A slow start proved costly last week, so the Sharks will need to be at their best from the first bounce. Morgan Davies and Durak Tucker return to the side after missing last week through suspension and injury.
Our Colts will also be looking to return to the winner’s circle when they take on East Perth. It will be no easy feat against a side that has had two prolific wins to start the season. Ed Curley, Sam Emery, Trent Giles, Thomas McGrath, and Judd McVee have been added to this week’s side.
