Hugh(e) news!
East Fremantle are excited to announce Hugh Dixon as the latest signing for the 2021 season.
Originally from the Kingsborough Tigers in Tasmania, Hugh has spent the past 3 seasons at the Fremantle Dockers, making his AFL debut in 2019.
A strong marking key position player, Dixon can play forward or back, as well as providing Ruck support.
Football Manager, Brad Dodd, gave us his insight on the new arrival.
“We’re really excited to have Hugh on board. He’s a really likeable kid who we see as being able to play across a variety of roles,” Dodd said.
“Though he’s played a lot of his football forward, we’ve seen first-hand his work in the ruck, where his follow up was excellent. He’s also spent a fair bit of 2020 down back, so he offers Bill and the coaching panel some flexibility.”
Dixon, who has continued to train with a Fremantle cohort at New Choice Homes Park in the off-season, is eager to start and meet his new team-mates.
“I’m keen to get stuck into pre-season and start to build strong relationships with my new team-mates and coaches.”
Dixon said he was attracted by the prospect of going to a young squad on the rise.
“East Fremantle felt like the best fit for me. They have a young squad who are driven and you can see the potential. I’m hoping to help my team-mates become better players and help lead the club to some success next season.”
Dixon is the 4th addition to the squad for 2021, joining Dillon O’Reilly, Josh Schoenfeld and Corey Chalmers.
