West Perth Claw Back Sharks Lead
East Fremantle have suffered a tight loss to West Perth despite holding a 29-point lead midway through the third term, with the Falcons winning 8.11 (59) to 8.7 (55).
It’s the second successive match East Fremantle have been a kick away from recording premiership points following their one goal loss to Perth before the bye.
Despite the result, the Sharks once again won two of the four quarters - the third consecutive game they have done so - but were undone by a very strong West Perth side away from home.
Head Coach Bill Monaghan would have been impressed by many facets of East Fremantle's game as their impressive ball movement and tackling pressure was on show for all to see.
Cam Eardley played his best game of the season so far, recording 28 disposals and kicking a goal while Thomas Bennett continued his great form with 22 touches of the football as well as a goal of his own.
Jarrad Jansen and Cody Leggett continued to find plenty of the football, combining for an impressive 10 tackles, 48 disposals and a goal while Blaine Boekhorst showed his usual run and dash throughout his 24 disposal performance.
Jordan Snaddens’ impressive year continued as he also recorded 23 disposals and kicked a goal while captain Jonathan Griffin once again dominated the ruck contest, recording 42 hit outs - he alone beat the Falcons in that stat 42 to 17.
Up forward, Tim Bockman was a standout kicking two goals while Brodie Riach kicked his first goal as a Shark and was surrounded by his teammates in celebration.
In defence, Matthew Jupp and Dylan Winton were once again outstanding as they held the Falcons to just two first-half goals while Milan Murdock toiled hard and recorded 11 tackles.
East Fremantle return to New Choice Homes Park this week to take on Claremont. The Sharks will be looking to repeat their performance against the Tigers during the preseason, where they looked to be running over a strong Claremont side before falling just 5 points short.
