Sharks downed on Thrifty Match Day
East Fremantle will be rueing their inaccuracy in front of goal after a tight contest with Claremont on Thifty Match Day, narrowly losing 7.14 (56) to 10.6 (66).
The Sharks played some of their best football for the season, especially in the second quarter of the match but were unable to capitalise, kicking two goals and seven behinds.
Cameron Eardley was outstanding in his 100th league match as was fellow midfielder Nick Kommer, the duo combining for 60 disposals, 9 marks, 11 tackles and a goal to again both be named amongst the best players on the ground.
Blaine Boekhorst continued his good form for the Sharks and was deservedly named amongst the best players on the ground once again. The midfielder showed his usual run and dash on his way to recording 32 disposals, 7 marks and 5 tackles.
East Fremantle captain Jon Griffin led from the front once again with the ruckman arguably playing his best game of the season, dominating the ruck contest while recording a mammoth 52 hit outs to go with his 11 disposals.
Up forward Luke Strnadica kicked three goals, including two goals from on the 50-metre line to keep East Fremantle within striking distance late in the match. The tall forward also recorded 13 disposals and 17 hit outs to cap off a solid game.
Matthew Jupp and Dylan Winton were once again outstanding in defence, continuing their good form while keeping Claremont to just 10 goals. The East Fremantle vice captain was especially good with 13 touches and 6 marks.
This week the Sharks take on Subiaco at Leederville Oval, a ground the side will have fond memories of having beaten East Perth there just weeks ago. Bill Monaghan’s side will be looking to repeat the effort and skills shown against Claremont to beat the top of the table Lions
GOALS: 3 - Strnadica 1 - Manning, Eardley, Murdock, Monaghan
