Consistent Eardley Cracks 100 Games on Thrifty Match Day
East Fremantle favourite, Cameron Eardley will run out for his 100th WAFL League game this Thrifty Match Day against Claremont.
The 26-year-old has been a consistent player for the Sharks, regularly finishing in the Top 5 of the Lynn Medal. Having barely missed a game in his six years, Eardley has often led the side on and off the field.
“I feel very honoured to play 100 games for East Fremantle. It’s an honour at any club, but to do it at the club I grew up supporting and watching is really quite special,” Eardley said.
When looking back at his football career, Eardley said there was one game that stood out.
“Getting through to the Preliminary final in 2015 was nice. Although we didn’t win, we had a really strong year and probably should have won, if only we had kicked straight.”
Averaging close to 26 disposals and 5 tackles each game, Eardley said it isn’t just the matches that have been memorable.
“I’ve made a lot of really close friends over my time here which I’m really grateful for, but just training with your mates every day makes it a whole lot easier and more enjoyable.”
Cameron is a great example of the development pathway, having played juniors in our district and being selected in the development squads. Progressing through to the colts, he was drafted to Geelong at the end of 2011 before returning to the Sharks two years later.
The Sharks last met Claremont in the 2019 season opener, where they were easily beaten by The Tigers. Since then, East Fremantle has found form and despite last week’s loss, will be determined to avenge their round one defeat.
James Harrold comes into the side this week. Harrold has toiled hard in the Reserves and built up a good body of form. He replaces Lachlan Bailey.
Nic Bonomelli holds his spot in the side, after coming in to replace Cameron Loersch who was a late withdrawal through injury against West Coast.
After two weeks off our Colts and Reserves will be ready to tackle strong Claremont sides.
