Preview | Round 7 v Perth
The Sharks are on the hunt to stay in the winner’s circle this Saturday, when they host Perth at New Choice Homes Park.
Buoyed by our first win for the season, East Fremantle will look to register consecutive wins for the first time in since 2016. It will be no easy feat, with a determined Perth side coming off their first loss of the season.
The two teams have enjoyed a competitive rivalry in recent years, but it will be East Fremantle looking to capitalise on the home ground advantage, with Perth’s last win at Shark Park coming in 2009.
Blaine Boekhorst will line up for his 50th WAFL league match on Saturday. Originally from Swan Districts, Boekhorst was selected by Carlton with pick 14 in the 2014 AFL Draft. Over three years he registered 25 games with Carlton, before returning to WA. The 25-year-old made his debut for the Sharks in Round 1 of 2018 but his knee gave way in the opening minutes of the game, sidelining him for the rest of the season. Since returning to the senior side in round 3, Boekhorst has made a significant impact in the midfield with his line-breaking speed and kicking skills.
The side goes relatively unchanged after last week’s win, with Josef Hebiton and Dillon O’Reilly coming into the Sharks extended squad.
In the earlier game, our Reserves side will look to get off the blocks quickly, after a slow start last week proved costly. Alex Bray returns from injury, while Zac Hayward, Ben Wardle, Mitch Cusworth, Lachlan Taylor and Luke Dobson have been promoted from the Colts.
The 9am timeslot will be filled by our Futures as the Colts play their match in Geraldton.
