Sharks battle Subiaco in Jupp’s 100th
The Sharks will line up for their first official game at New Choice Homes Park this Saturday, against Subiaco.
It’s a special game, with East Fremantle favourite, Matthew Jupp, notching his 100th league game with the club.
“It’s exciting to play 100 league games of WA football and something I’m sure I’ll look back on as a proud achievement once it’s all over,” Jupp said.
“Obviously pulling on the jumper so many times is a highlight, but it’s the friends, memories and moments in between that make it all worthwhile.”
When looking back at his football career, Jupp said there were three moments that stood out.
“My debut against South Fremantle on Anzac day in 2013. I’ll never forget holding the cup in the middle of the circle belting out the song, it sticks with me to this day.
“Coming from 7 goals down to beat Swan Districts in the 2014 elimination final, my only finals win and probably the loudest I’ve ever sung the song in my career. And playing alongside my cousin, Jack Perham in our first league game together - that was a pretty cool experience!”
Another milestone will be made on the weekend with Alex Montauban making his league debut. Monty, as he’s affectionately known, is a product of the East Fremantle development pathway, playing junior football at Rossmoyne, before making his way through our development squads. Injuries have plagued the 21- year old, but as testament to his character, Monty’s resilience and dedication have earned him a spot in this week’s side. Playing his best footy as a small forward/winger, he is a quick, hard-working left footer that will be an important inclusion for the Sharks.
Into the 25 this week come youngsters Lachy Bailey, Corey Holmes and Nic Watson.
The Sharks have lost some experience with captain Jonathon Griffin, Jordan Snadden and Dillon O’Reilly sidelined with injury.
After last week’s disappointing loss, the Sharks will look to put together 4 quarters of consistent footy.
In the earlier game, the Reserves will look to cement their first win after last week’s heartbreaking loss. Into the side comes Mick Cronan, Fraser Daly, Milan Murdock, Jayden Quill, Cody Smith and Kennedy Sorrell.
The Futures (formally the 16s) are playing in the 9am timeslot on Saturday, in what should be a hot contest. Both the Sharks and Subiaco go into the match with four straight wins, sitting at the top of the ladder.
Please note, the Colts will be playing at 10.30am on Sunday at New Choice Homes Park
