Preview | Round 1 v Claremont
East Fremantle begin their 2019 WAFL campaign against The Tigers this Saturday at Claremont Oval.
Luke Strnadica, Kody Manning, Alex Bray and Morgan Davies will play their first game for the Sharks alongside Jeremy Sharp and Kyle Baskerville who will make their league debuts.
Selected in the 2018 All-Australian 18’s team, Jeremy Sharp has displayed immense talent for his age. The 17-year-old, hard-running winger who is praised for his agility, will slot nicely into the Sharks side.
Kyle Baskerville, a promising Colts player, has overcome plenty of injuries in the past few years. His dedication and professional approach to getting his body right this pre-season, has earned him a spot in the league squad.
Also making his debut for the Sharks is Senior Coach, Bill Monaghan, who believes the Sharks are prepared for round 1.
“I expect the side to be competitive and put their best foot forward,” Monaghan said.
“Winning wasn’t the focus in the pre-season games, they were an opportunity to try structures and game styles, exposing a number of players to senior footy.”
Claremont Oval has been a stage for a fierce rivalry between the two teams, with the previous games going down to the final seconds.
Having showed positive signs in the pre-season hitouts, the youthful Reserves side will be looking to start their season well under new coach Larry Cavallo.
The Colts should also head into Saturday’s clash with confidence after promising signs in the pre-season. Coach Jacob Brennan will look to take his team one step further in his second year at the helm, alongside assistants Andrew Stephen, Adrian Ricciardello and Marco Paparone.
