Northern Regions Colts Carnival Wongan Hills
The 7th Annual Northern Regions Colts Carnival was played over the weekend which saw 5 teams participate for the Bert McClements Shield. The teams involved were Avon Football Association, Central Midlands Coastal Football League, Great Northern Football League, Mortlock Football League and North Midlands Football League.
East Fremantle Talent Manager Andrew Dodd along with Directors John Ipsen and Steve Miguel attended on Sunday which included a number of games and The Grand Final. The match between Great Northern Football League (GNFL) vs Avon Football Association (AFA) saw the GNFL progress straight into the Grand Final where 1 v 2 would play each other. This would be again the GNFL v AVA.
During the carnival, it was certainly evident that there is some up and coming talent in the GNFL, and it was great to see a number of the East Fremantle Shark Pack and Development squad players in the GNFL side. It was also great to see the talented kids in other teams show their potential which makes it a great carnival to attend.
The Grand Final which saw the GNFL play AVA was a nail biting game with some excellent displays of football. Caleb Gray was outstanding in the ruck and took some excellent marks off half back. Tom Collins and Jandimarra Dwyer were influential in the midfield with their run and carry. Darcy Rowe was exceptional down back and read the play very well. Kobi Sellar played his role down forward alongside Leon Galby and Jai Jackson was influential across half back. AVA hit the front late in the final half and it was up to the GNFL to try and claw back for their record 7th Grand Final win. The final moments saw speedster Jandimarra Dwyer run off the wing from a centre bounce to kick inside 50. A free kick was then awarded 30 meters out from goal as Kobi Sellar was being held without the football. This would see Kobi kick truly and have the GNFL win their 7th straight Bert McClements Shield.
The GNFL players were each presented with a medallion and Andrew Dodd presented the Best player for the Grand Final which was named as Jandimarra Dwyer (Mullewa Football Club).
10 players from the GNFL made the All Stars 30 Squad, which is a fantastic result. Tom Collins (Towns), Leon Galby (Mullewa), Jandimarra Dwyer (Mullewa), William Faithful (Towns), Michael Wright (Chapman Valley), Liam Woodman (Chapman Valley), Jai Jackson (Chapman Valley), Len Papertalk (Chapman Valley), Matt Walker (Chapman Valley) and Caleb Gray (Brigades).+
Many thanks to the organisers of the carnival, the Sponsors and the Wongan-Ballidu Football Club for hosting the event.
