The AOS Development Squad Round 4 Report

Friday, October 7, 2016 - 2:05 PM by Andrew Dodd

The AOS Development squads had their 4th and final Carnival fixture on Thursday 6th October against Peel Thunder, which was held at ATOM Stadium. The day was up and down for the Sharks including an intense draw with the 9Bs. The 8Bs started off the day once again followed by the 9Bs, 8As, 9As and finishing off with our year 10s.

The 8Bs kicked off their last fixture of the carnival at 9am, with a low scoring first half from both sides. Kyron Eales was excellent down back and Will Johnson did a fantastic job in the ruck. After the half time break Peel opened up the scoring and was too fast for our boys through the middle. Roc Hughes played an exceptional role through half back and also kicked our only goal for the game. Roc was outstanding all match with some terrific marks and football skills. Callum Grant also played a vital role off half forward and his intensity around the ball was fantastic.

Goals: R. Hughes 1.

Best: R. Hughes, K. Eales, C. Grant

Our year 9Bs had a very close game throughout their match. If it wasn’t for some costly mistakes the boys would have come away with a win, but it wasn’t meant to be. Harrison Cormack was brilliant through the middle which gave the Sharks some excellent run and carry forward. Euan Murray was courageous down back taking some outstanding marks and his decision making was key to our rebound. Riley Duff was also very good down back with some strong defensive work. Lachlan McManus had great attack on the ball and contributed to our defensive pressure. Baylee Blakemore was also outstanding in reading the play and taking some great pack marks in front of the East Fremantle spectators. Dylan Scheepmaker was potent in front of the big sticks, with Dylan kicking a game high 3 goals. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get the Sharks over the line in what ended up as a draw.

Goals: D. Scheepmaker 3, K. McNally 1, J. Little 1, H. Quartermaine 1, H. Cormack 1.

Best: H. Cormack, E. Murray, R. Duffy, B. Blakemore, D. Scheepmaker.

The 8As were again outstanding in the way they played their game. Great team football and they always love to share it around in the forward line. Brandon and Chris Walker again showed us just how exciting they are to watch, with their run, evade and hit up a forward target. Its really is something special. Sam Emery was excellent in the middle, his competitiveness and determination for the ball was superb. Josh Stedman was brilliant in the ruck and his body use when attacking was tremendous. Zach Goodacre was also very good in the ruck and off half back for the Sharks. Our Mid-West boys again played well with Edward Curley playing some very smart football in front goals as well Jack Carroll.

Goals: B. Walker, E. Curley, J. Carroll, T. Burns, R. McNally, S. Emery, C. Casale, C. Paperone.

Best: B. Walker, S. Emery, J. Stedman, Z. Goodacre.

The year 9As had another well fought out game against Peel with the game being very close all the way through. Trey Ruscoe was exceptional off half back and even more so when put in the midfield. His awareness and decision making was first-rate. Leroy Pigram had some excellent run and carry which helped our forwards in Trent Rivers, Lachlan McGrath and Tom Wallis. Tristan Crouch, Alex Crowe and Daniel Schmidt were a force down back with Alex Crowes run and carry from half back to forward line and goal being up there for Goal of The Carnival. Trent Rivers held off Peel to slot the game sealer in the final quarter making the Sharks 9 point victors.

Goals: T. Rivers 3, T. Crouch 2, T. Wallis 2, D. Schmidt 1, A. Crowe 1, O. Hitchcock 1, L. McGrath 1, J. Patton 1.

Best: T. Ruscoe, L. Pigram, T. Crouch, A. Crowe, T. Rivers.

The final game of the carnival for our year 10s was a bit disappointing, with Peel being too strong and wanting the ball more than us. Peel hit the scoreboard first and it was a chasing game from then on for our Sharks. Our skills were not up to what we are capable of and our our turnovers were very costly with Peel scoring on them numerous times. Jeremy Sharp continues to show what he is capable of doing and his ball use throughout the carnival has been excellent. Mid-West boys Jai Jackson, Michael Wright and Atten Mason were outstanding for us despite the score and continue to shine for the Sharks. Luke Dobson was again brilliant off the defence line with some courageous marks and run to create. Dane Johnson did very well at full back and takes the game on head first. His marking was exceptional especially when intercepting. The boys tried their best in the final quarter but couldn’t chase Peel down coming up short by 23 points.

Goals: J. Sharp 2, T. Mercer 1, J. Goodwin 1, D. Thompson 1, A. Mason 1, Z. Fuller 1.

Best: J. Jackson, M. Wright, L. Dobson, J. Sharp, D. Johnson.

Overall it has been a pleasure to watch all players involved in the carnival. The Sharks have some brilliant talent coming through our squads and the future looks very bright. Thank you to all the Coaches, Team Managers, parents and volunteers for all your help throughout the carnival.
