A bitter end to a fantastic finals campaign
East Fremantle’s Development League has ended their 2016 season on a disappointing note, going down to Claremont by 55 points in Sunday’s preliminary final.
The Tigers set the tone of the game, kicking the first goal and promptly putting an end to any Sharks efforts to push the ball forward.
Fraser Perry set up a nice mark for Jeff Carter, who finished with the first goal for East Fremantle.
The Sharks looked to be on a run, with Jacob Green coming through with their second major of the quarter.
But Claremont was quick to respond, sneaking in a fast goal before the end of the first quarter, to lead by 16 points.
The Sharks struggled to get on the scoreboard during the second term, while the Tigers capitalised on every opportunity. The boys worked hard to push the ball forward, but couldnt penetrate the Tigers' defence.
Jake Schleicher and the returning Adrian Ricciardello managed a goal each in the third term, with the Sharks holding Claremont to just two goals for the quarter.
Jesse Adamini booted two majors in the final term, including a fantastic running goal.
Josh Cuneo’s mark was without a doubt a highlight of the fourth quarter, moving the ball quickly without a chance to celebrate.
Jake Schleicher gathered 26 touches, Tom Hooker 24, Tyler Chalwell 23, Fraser Perry 22, Jesse Adamini 22, Josh Cuneo 22 and Tom Marshall 20.
The Sharks worked hard in all four quarters, but were unable to match a determined Tigers side, who will have their chance for revenge against East Perth in the grand final.
It was a disappointing end to the season, but the boys should take confidence in their playing ability knowing they have laid the foundations for an excellent 2017.
